An airline industry analyst at Perdue University who is responsible for the annual Airline Quality Rating Report (AQR) has raised doubts about any positive changes for US air travelers through the American Airlines-US Airways merger. Dr Brent Bowen believes that the employees of both airlines may end up becoming dissatisfied with the merger due to problems associated with the merging of employee organizations.
American Airlines, the larger airline, has consistently ranked poorly in the quality rating report since 2008. US Airways rankings during the same time period have steadily improved – but as the smaller airline, it will not have enough clout to dominate the merged company’s performance. Consequently, the merger is projected to negatively impact US Airway’s quality rating while American’s rating will remain dismal.
Additionally, the complexities involved with the integration of booking systems and logistics may also lead to flight delays similar to that of the United-Continental merger of 2010.
