Philippine Airlines has installed the first in-flight WiFi Internet and GSM mobile connectivity system on one of its Boeing 777 aircraft.
The Boeing 777-300ER is outfitted with the GSMConneX connectivity system. The new systems will be installed on Philippine Airlines’ Boeing 777 and A330-343 aircraft.
The GSMConneX system, developed by Germany based TriaGnoSys, enables in-flight mobile calls and Internet access to all passengers.
“The ability to offer both GSM and Wi-Fi services is very important: passengers want to be able to choose how they communicate during the flight, just as they can on the ground,” said Ian Dawkins, CEO of OnAir, Philippine Airlines GSM and Wi-Fi service provider.
Philippine Airlines is the first user of the GSMConneX system worldwide.
