A joint-venture launched by former NASA scientists is offering a two-person trip to the moon and back for a very reasonable $1.4 billion!
It has been over 40 years since the last US Apollo astronauts left the moon and the researchers now expect to “commoditize” moon trips by launching 15-20 trips a year.
The company, Golden Spike Company based in Colorado, announced in late 2012 that it was shooting for an expected launch time-frame of “the end of this decade.”
This announcement appears to be overly optimistic. After a frenzy of press coverage in 2013, the company slowly disappeared from view. At that time, Golden Spike did not have any space travel infrastructure.
With merely 3 years before the end of this decade, it is unlikely Golden Spike will move forward quickly enough to reach its initial goal.
