Qatar Airways announced it will become a full member of airline alliance oneworld on October 30, 2013. With Qatar’s inclusion, oneworld will become the leading airline alliance in the Middle East region.
The airline is first among the rapidly growing “Big Three” Gulf carriers – other two being Etihad and Emirates – to join a major airline alliance.
Qatar Airways received clearance to join oneworld after successfully completing a review of its readiness by British Airways, which is sponsoring Qatar Airways’ entry into the alliance.
Qatar Airways will complete its oneworld implementation program just one year after receiving the invitation to join in October 2012. Usually, it takes an airline about 18 months to complete the process.
Major oneworld members include American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Japan Airlines, airberlin, Finnair, Iberia, LAN Airlines and Malaysia Airlines.
