Qatar Airways, one of the ‘Big Three’ Gulf carriers along with Emirates and Etihad, plans to upgrade its Business Class cabins on select Airbus A330 and A320 aircraft. The upgrades will include the introduction of fully lie-flat seats in Business Class.
Seven A330s and nine A320s will be upgraded by the third quarter of 2014.
The upgraded A320 aircraft will operate on routes between Doha and Vienna, Tunis, Milan, Rome, Geneva and Maldives while the upgraded A330s will operate on routes between Doha and Barcelona, Osaka, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Phuket.
Business Class seating on both the upgraded A320 and A330 will recline into a 180-degree true lie-flat bed. Other seat features will include six-way adjustable headrests, four-way adjustable lumbar support, a variety of personal stowage compartments, privacy dividers and fresh contemporary styling in the Business Class cabin.
Business Class on both the aircraft will also feature new 15.4-inch smart monitors and touch screen remote controller handsets. The seats will also offer a power outlet, USB ports and connectivity for smart devices.
The in-flight entertainment systems on the A330s will be upgraded to the Panasonic eX2 platform, providing wider entertainment options.
The A330 aircraft will also be fitted with on-board Internet connectivity through the Panasonic Global Communications Suite.
Both the A330s and A320s will provide the capability to send and receive SMS and MMS messages.
