Domestic air travel in China is dominated by four airlines – Air China, China Eastern, China Southern and Hainan Airlines.
China Southern is the largest airline in terms of carried passengers and is based in the southern city of Guanghou. Shanghai-based China Eastern is the second largest operator. Both of these airlines are members of SkyTeam airline alliance.
Beijing-based Chinese flag carrier Air China is a member of Star Alliance and has the largest international operations.
Privately-owned Hainan Airlines is the youngest, smallest, and the highest rated of the Big Four with headquarters in the city of Haikou on Hainan Island.
Hainan is known to offer the best experience while Air China and China Southern are considered to be average.
China Eastern has received the poorest ratings for service and flight experiences.
