Many airports across the US conduct annual runway runs where runners can run on the airport’s runway. These runs are usually 5 kilometers long. Some of the upcoming runway runs include:
5k Hawaii Marine Corps Base Runway Run: The 5 km run will take place at the Marine Corps Base at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii on July 4.
Charlotte Douglas International 5k Run/Walk: The 5 km event at one of the country’s busiest airports is even wheelchair and baby stroller-friendly and takes place on October 23.
Columbia Metropolitan 5k Runway Run: The Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina conducts a 5 km run as well as a kids’ “fun run” on November 23.
O’Hare 5k on the Runway: The O’Hare International Airport in Chicago partners with United Airlines for the annual 5 km run through United aircraft on Runway 9L/27R.
New York’s JFK Airport also conducts an annual runway run in April. Nearly a thousand runners participated in the 2013 run that was sponsored by JetBlue, US Airways, El Al and Lufthansa.
