Ryanair, the largest European low-cost carrier, plans to grow its annual traffic at London Stansted Airport by over 50 per cent in the next 10 years in return for a package of lower costs and more efficient facilities at the airport.
The airline has entered into a 10-year growth agreement with Manchester Airport Group, operators of Stansted airport. The airport plans to undertake a major terminal redevelopment project
Ryanair had an annual traffic of 13.2 million passengers at Stansted in 2012. It expects to grow its traffic to nearly 20 million passengers per annum over the next 10 years.
Ryanair will also increase the number of planes based at the airport to 43 (from 37 at present) and increase the total number of routes to 120 next year. Expansion plans also include new routes to Bordeaux, Dortmund, Lisbon and Rabat (Morocco) from the airport.
