Ireland based low-cost airline Ryanair plans to place a bumper order of 175 Next Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft for a total price of $15.6 billion – the largest aircraft order ever by a European airline. The new aircraft will expand Ryanair’s fleet by about 30 percent, to nearly 400 aircraft. The order is subject to shareholder approval.
The aircraft will be delivered by 2018. Ryanair currently operates the largest Boeing fleet in Europe with nearly 305 Boeing 737 aircraft. Boeing claims the 737-800 to be the “most efficient large single-aisle plane flying today.”
We’ll have to wait to find out how many seats Ryanair can cram into one of these planes, but at least passengers on the airline will be soon treated to the latest technology.
