The SkyTeam airline alliance has announced that Garuda Indonesia will join the alliance, which counts Delta, KLM/Air France and Korean Air as its major members, on March 5, 2014. The airline will become SkyTeam’s 20th member.
Garuda currently operates non-stop flights from the Indonesian capital Jakarta to 6 SkyTeam hubs – Amsterdam, Seoul, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei.
SkyTeam has 19 member airlines with over 15,000 daily flights to 1,000 destinations in 187 countries.
The SkyTeam member airlines are Aeroflot, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeroméxico, Air Europa, Air France, Alitalia, China Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Kenya Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, Saudia, TAROM, Vietnam Airlines and Xiamen Airlines.
In the official announcement, Michael Wisbrun, SkyTeam’s managing director, mentioned that through the association with SkyTeam, Garuda’s customers will have access to more than 1,020 global destinations. Additionally, they will benefit from services such as SkyPriority and access to over 530 member lounges worldwide.
