Southwest will launch the first non-stop flights between Hobby Airport in Houston and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington D.C. before August.
The US Department of Transportation (DOT) recently decided to award Southwest two slots at Washington National, clearing the way for the flights. The slots were vacated by Spirit Airlines due to its move to Baltimore-Washington International.
DOT requires Southwest to start flights on the route by August 5.
United currently operates a nonstop flights to Washington D.C. from Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.
