Southwest Airlines has maintained its position as the top US domestic airline based on passenger numbers, according to data for 2012 released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Southwest carried a total of about 112 million domestic passengers in the US in 2012. Delta followed as the second largest domestic US airline with 94 million passengers. United was at the third place and American was at the fourth place.

Delta was the largest airline in the world based on total number of scheduled passengers carried with a combined total of 116 million international and US domestic passengers in 2012.
