The airline joint venture between Indian industrial conglomerate Tata Group and Singapore Airlines (SIA) is expected to launch flights from May-June 2014.
Tata SIA Airlines Chairman Prasad Menon recently told media persons after meeting Indian Aviation Minister Ajit Singh that the joint venture was hopeful for an expedited approval so the airline could begin flights in early Spring of next year.
The Indian Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approved the planned full-service airline project on October 24.
Ratan Tata, the Tata Group Chairman Emeritus, has also expressed interest in acquiring a stake in the state-owned Indian flag carrier Air India if the government chooses to privatize it.
The Tata Group seems to be set on investing in airlines as it is also planning to launch a low-cost airline in India next year in partnership with Malaysia based AirAsia X.
