The average weight of an aircraft passenger is probably at an all time high with nearly one-third of all Americans being obese.
Airplane seats are however evolving in direct contrast to this trend due to tough economic times – now the seats on an airplane are smaller than ever. In 2012, Qatar Airways introduced 16.9-inch wide economy seats on its new Dreamliners and became the first full-service carrier to go below the seat-width of 17-inches.
No wonder that “passengers of size” are literally getting squeezed by the air travel seat trends. Vague and inconsistent airline regulations and an uncooperative attitude of cabin-crew and fellow passengers only makes the matter worse.
