A number of designers and in-flight entertainment companies are redesigning the airplane seat table tray for greater functionality, convenience and storage options, according to the Apex Aero Blog.
One such solution is the TrayVu embedded tray table in-flight entertainment system by Skycast Solutions. TrayVu, currently being tested by Canadian low-cost carrier WestJet, consists of an 8.9-inch Samsung Galaxy tablet attached to a stand that clips on to the tray table, thereby freeing up space for meals and drinks.
Another tray design is SmartTray X1 by Smart Tray International. SmartTray X1 is a tray table with a special groove in its surface that can hold passengers personal electronic devices such as tablets.
