Transport Security Administration’s PreCheck program for expedited security screening of trusted low-risk travelers is scheduled to expand to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport by March 31, 2013.
The PreCheck program allows qualifying travelers to keep their laptops in their cases and keep their shoes, belts, light weight jackets or sweaters on while undergoing routine airport security checks.
TSA maintains this program allows fliers to pass through more quickly and efficiently. One reason is due to the presence of a dedicated line for those travelers in the PreCheck program.
Frequent fliers of five participating airlines – American, Alaska, Delta, US Airways and United – as well as members of US Customs and Border Protection trusted traveler programs are eligible for the program.
Southwest, the airline with the largest operations at Austin-Bergstrom, is expected to join the PreCheck program before the end of 2013.
