United has released a cargo emissions/offset calculator that computes and displays individual carbon emissions for customer shipping orders through United Cargo.
United also offers a carbon emissions calculator for passenger travel where travelers can find out the carbon footprint of their flights.
Customers can enter the place of origin and destination for each flight leg and the weight of their shipment to quickly find out the total carbon footprint for their shipment using United operational data.
The calculator also enables United Cargo to accurately and efficiently respond to shipping request-for-proposals, which often require the inclusion of emissions reporting data.
The calculations are based on actual flight data according to factors such as aircraft type, routes and seasonality. The tool offers greater accuracy by applying a CO2 emissions calculation methodology based on the latest International Air Transport Association and International Civil Aviation Organization analyses and standards.
Customers can also sponsor high-quality emission reduction projects around the globe. The projects are based on geographic relevance to major United hubs, and have been third-party verified to internationally recognized standards.
