United, one of the last major airlines to adopt in-flight Wifi Internet, has launched satellite-based Wifi on 12 of its aircraft operating on long-distance international routes. The airline is the first US carrier to offer Wifi Internet on international flights.
The charges for the service are $3.99 to $14.99 for standard speeds and between $5.99 to $19.99 for faster speeds, depending on the flight duration.
At present, United has onboard Wifi on just 3 percent of its over 700 planes, lower than any other major US carrier. The airline plans to have in-flight Wifi installed on about 300 planes by the end of 2013.
