United Airlines has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for permission to operate non-stop flights between its San Francisco hub and Chengdu, the fourth-largest Chinese city. The request includes having flights begin from June 9, 2014.
United plans to use Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners for the San Francisco-
Chengdu flights, which will operate 3 times per week. The flights will depart from San Francisco on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
If approved, Chengdu will be the ninth non-stop United destination in the Asia/Pacific region from San Francisco.
Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province in southwest China and the country’s fourth largest city. It is one of the country’s fastest-developing cities with the presence of over 200 Fortune 500 companies.
In China, United also operates non-stop flights to Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong from several major US cities.
