Many US airports have launched their own therapy dog teams to help create a relaxed atmosphere at the airport and relieve traveler stress, according to a NPR report.
San Jose airport, Miami’s International airport and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) now have therapy dog teams that roam the airport.
The Los Angeles International Airport launched its Pets Unstressing Passengers (PUPS) program in April. The trained dogs and handlers roam through the gate areas on the departure level of each terminal on rotating schedules.
Passengers at LAX are greeted by the dogs once they clear the security checks. The dogs, complete with “Pet Me!” vests, provide a welcome sight during the summer travel rush. Its no wonder that passengers at LAX can be seen waiting in line to pat the dogs.
