Virgin Australia has been named as the most eco-friendly airline in Australia and New Zealand in a 2013 ranking of world airlines according to their carbon emissions.
Virgin Australia was found to have the lowest carbon emissions among the airlines in the region with emissions of 58.68 g/km of carbon dioxide per passenger, according to JetRadar.com’s ECO Rank.
Air New Zealand was at the second place in the region followed by Jetstar, Qantas and Tiger Airways.
The rankings were based on aviation emissions, air traffic forecasts and the aircraft used by the airlines.
Emirates was found to be the greenest airline in the world according to the ranking.
